Chapter 5

IN THE small apartment it took less than three steps to maneuver Joshua to the foot of the bed. Yet we didn’t tumble in straight away.

“Roommates?” I murmured into a breathless, heady kiss.

Joshua shook his head as I trailed my lips down his jawline. “No. These are singles. Just me.” All of a sudden, he shoved me back, startling me. Then without a word, he dashed to the door and turned the lock. The click indicated that no one was going to interrupt us. He stood there a moment, leaning against the door, steadying his breath. Then he made his way back to my embrace. “Sorry. I keep forgetting.”

I kissed him, and he kissed me back with equal fervor. I had always been a go right for the cock, man type of guy, but with Joshua, I enjoyed kissing more than I think I ever had before.

I nibbled on his lower lip, and he melted in my arms, making low, keening noises in the back of his throat. I glided my tongue down his neck to lick and suckle at his pulse point. Joshua moaned then, louder than before. The flavor of his citrusy aftershave and the light sheen of sweat covering his heated skin lingered on my tongue.

“You really should keep that door locked. Never know who’s roaming the halls.” I wasn’t chiding, exactly, but I wanted him safe. I couldn’t imagine him getting the upper hand in any sort of fight, which put me in the unfamiliar role of a knight in shining armor.

Joshua tilted his head back, giving me greater access to the column of his neck, all that flesh waiting for me and my mouth. I coveted him with feverish obsession. “It’s only students here, Zane. No one locks their doors. People pop in and out. I’m not scared. The worst that could happen is I’d get an uninvited booty call in the middle of the night from someone in the wrong room.” I chuckled at that, but was admittedly a bit jealous. “Only students wander here, and of course the people they’re shagging.”

I looked up at that remark, bemused, with images of Austin Powers floating around in my head. “Shagging? That’s a little… across-the-pond for me.”

Joshua frowned, the way he did when he wasn’t getting my inane nonsense. “I don’t like to use the F word all the time.”

I nodded, letting the matter drop. “Can we do the F word?”

Joshua giggled at that. He freaking giggled, and I loved it. “So, you’re gonna shag me, are you, Zane?”

I grimaced playfully. “No. That sounds too odd even for me. But I am going to make love to you.” Inwardly I cringed. I had intended to say fuck or have sex, but what came out instead was something insane. But was it untrue? Too soon to say. I didn’t even know for sure what that flowery, romantic phrase meant. Was it gentle, tender, girlish sex with too many emotions floating around? Who knew.

Joshua looked at me funny.
